Writing Lesson Plans



What’s included in the Writing lesson plans bundle:

  • A brief summary of each project, including suggested grade level and prior knowledge, time required, software required
  • Higher-order thinking skills addressed
  • Technology-specific skills taught

Five projects include:
A Holiday Memory in Word or KidPix
Write a holiday letter with student picture, text wrapped around it and additional formatting. Use KidPix for younger, MS Word for older students.
Four-sentence Story–Advanced–in KidPix (and PowerPoint)
Write and illustrate a story in Kidpix with all the characteristics of good fiction. One per slide–character, setting, plot, ending.
Color my Grammar (in Word)
Type several sentences in Word. Pick from a book students are reading, spelling words or sight words. Use the color palette to label parts of speech.
Grow Your Story Using Word
Provide a second-grade version of a story (limited character development, no scenery, limited sensory input, etc.). Ask students to engage their critical thinking skills: Determine why a story sounds amateurish and morph it to a sophisticated one.
What Does a Dolch Word Look Like?
Have students type several site/spelling/high frequency/Dolch words in KidPix. Create a quasi-sentence, filling in the missing nouns/verbs/etc. with stamps from KidPix tools.
